Student Loaner Laptops

Students who need access to a computer for Lake Michigan College coursework may borrow a laptop by submitting a Loaner Laptop Service request via the IT Service Portal. Students may borrow a laptop on a first come, first served basis. Once a service request is submitted, someone from the IT Service Desk will be in contact to schedule a time for pick up when a laptop is available. A student ID is required for checkout.

All laptops have webcams and microphones built in, and are able to access Canvas and Zoom. The laptops also have Microsoft Office and Respondus Lockdown Browser installed.

To request a student loaner laptop, visit https://lakemichigan.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1/group/1/create/92. Please advise that due to limited quantity, submission of the student laptop loaner request form does not guarantee a loaner will be available. A member of the IT Service Desk will contact you to schedule a pick up if a loaner laptop is available. If a loaner laptop is not available, you will be placed on a waiting list.

How does it work?

  • Supply is limited so requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Students are only eligible for one loaner check-out at a time.

  • Upon submission of the Student Loaner Laptop Request form (https://lakemichigan.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1/group/1/create/92), students agree to Lake Michigan College’s Acceptable Use Policy. The student also agrees to all terms and conditions listed in the Student Loaner Laptop Request Form.

  • The request form is always available, but supplies are limited, so please only request a device if you need it and return it to the Lake Michigan College IT Department if it is no longer needed.  Dropping the device off can be done at any time during business hours, no appointment needed.

  • Your initial request will have an end of loan date. As we get close to the end of your loan, we will reach out to you to coordinate the return or extension of the loan. Anyone who does not extend or return their loan by the initial return or extension date will have their student account charged the retail price cover the cost of a replacement device and sleeve. A hold may also be placed on the account

Interested students may request a loaner by completing thehttps://lakemichigan.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1/group/1/create/92.

Program Limitations

  • Due to supply and operational limits, this is not a short term/emergency loan program.

  • The program is designed for a minimum loan period of one (1) semester, though we strive to accommodate unique requests when possible.

  • The program does not offer same day service turnaround — requests will be evaluated within 48 hours of receipt.

  • There is absolutely no cost to you to borrow this device during the loan as long as you remain eligible and respond to our communications, but you are completely responsible for your data. We recommend that you keep important files on the device backed up on a separate hard drive or in cloud storage in case there is ever an issue and you need to exchange it.
