Cisco Jabber delivers instant messaging, voice and video calls, voice messaging, desktop sharing, conferencing, and presence. Find the right people, see whether and how they're available, and collaborate more effectively. Jabber service allows you to work outside the office while simultaneously unifying your communications with your colleagues. With your computer or a mobile device — and an Internet connection — you can instant message, place voice and video calls, share your desktop, and more.

All Faculty and Staff PCs are equipped with Cisco Jabber as a means of communicating internally with each other.

In addition, the features mentioned above, faculty and staff can place phone calls through the application by clicking the dial pad icon next the “search or call” bar located at the top of the app.  Users will use the dial pad just as they do with their desk phone.

Individuals that have VPN access (limited to individuals that do not have an office desktop PC and only have a laptop) may use Cisco Jabber on their laptop when connected to the VPN to use their office phone remotely. Remote use will require a headset and microphone to use. A standard headset, including earbuds used for Smartphones, are sufficient in most cases. In addition, further configuration may need to occur through IT. If you find that this service does not work, please submit a service request and IT can review the issue. To utilize Jabber on your desktop, click the phone icon shown below and then choose your PC from the "device for calls" option. This will allow phone calls to be received on your PC via Jabber.  If you do not choose the correct device, the call will be answered on your desk phone and you will not be able to hear the caller and they cannot hear you.

The instant messenger option will be available for all methods of connection, allowing quick communications among peers. To ensure instant messages are received and communication remains open, ensure your status is set to “available”. Other options available are “away” for when an individual steps away from their PC, and “Do Not Disturb” when needed.

If you do not have Cisco Jabber installed on your PC or have additional questions, please submit an IT Service Request for further assistance.
