Protect your LMC email account in just a few steps!

Why MFA?

Student Email Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Setup

Why MFA?
MFA adds a second layer of protection to your Microsoft 365 (school email) account. Even if someone gets your password, they can't sign in without approving it from your phone.

Step 1: Sign in as normal

Go to outlook.office.com (or open Outlook, Teams, or any Microsoft 365 app) and sign in with your school email and password like you normally would.

Step 2: You'll be prompted to set up MFA

You'll see a screen titled "More information required" (or "Action required"). This means your account isn't protected yet and needs a second sign-in method before you can continue.

  • Click Next

Step 3: Install Microsoft Authenticator (on your phone)

When prompted to choose a method, select Authenticator app, then Next. If you haven't installed it yet:

Open the app once installed, allow notifications if prompted, then click Next on your computer to reveal a QR code.

Step 4: Link your phone to your account

In the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone:

  1. Tap the + icon (top right) → Add account

  2. Select Work or school account

  3. Choose Scan a QR code

  4. Allow camera access if asked, then point your camera at the QR code on your screen

Step 5: Approve the test notification

  1. Back on your computer, click Next

  2. A test notification will be sent to your phone

  3. Open Authenticator and tap Approve

  4. Click Done — you're all set, and you'll be signed in
